VSCO APP Redesign
UI/UX
Project SummarY
What is VSCO?
It is a mobile app that originated as a photography and image editing platform
It is used almost as a photo gallery to share and showcase with your friends and others
History
Established in 2011 by Joel Flory and Greg Lutze
Began as a software startup aiming to create digital tools for photographers and creatives
Quickly gained popularity for its minimalist interface and a focus on providing users with powerful yet easy-to-use tools for enhancing their photos
Over the years, VSCO evolved from desktop software to a mobile app
TARGET AUDIENCE
Predominantly Millennials and
Gen Z
Users are usually creative individuals
Passionate about photography and visual expression
They use the app for its intuitive photo editing tools, diverse filters, and a supportive community that fosters artistic exploration and sharing
Problem Statement
The VSCO app needed addition personalization so users could further customize their content and profiles.
THE SOLUTION
I plan to improve user satisfaction by implementing a “Customize” section
Where you are able to customize the theme of your gallery more to your liking and to further express your creativity
Adjustable elements and features will be added, such as:
Background color
Font faces
Picture layout formations
Archiving posts
Pinning posts
Resizing images
Locking posts
THE Impact
To empower users to express themselves through visual storytelling
Provides a range of filters and editing tools to enhance amateur and professional photographers’ creativity in their images
Also serves as a social platform where users can share their work with others
Design Process
User 1:
PROS:
Creative
Good transitions
Functional
Numerous options
CONS:
Not every element is functional
Have to guide user through app
Changes/customizations don’t remain after edits
User 2:
PROS:
“You added elements/components that the app was missing that I’ve always wished they had.”
“I’ve always wanted to be able to archive my posts. I love how you added that feature.”
“I feel like the new components are very self explanatory.”
CONS:
“Not every element was functional yet, so I tried to change things that were not editable.”
“Maybe maybe the font folder actually scrollable.”
User 3:
PROS:
“You stuck to the theme of VSCO really well; it looks like I’m actually on the app.”
“I love how you’re able to change the color of the background and the font type, I feel like really personalizes your profile.”
“Functions are self explanatory”.
“You thought of probably about every customizable feature that could applied. I feel like you touched every basis.”
CONS:
“Not all of the elements were functional yet, but I understand that the app isn’t completely finished.”
“You can only switch between the ‘Gallery’ and ‘Customize’ page, but I understand considering that was the only changes you’ve made.”
